For the Sustainability Project, I was placed on Team 8 alongside Deborah and Arnold. Our group focused on Sustainability in combat of Fast Fashion. Our preparation for this Project was quite simple as we already gathered resources and were well informed on the topic prior to starting. A lot of the resources we used in our project were already prepared ahead of time.
When it came to assigning individual tasks, we all spoke about how we wanted to contribute. I personally wanted to contribute towards research and plugging in those findings into the video, that way we all research and we all work on the video. However, I was asked to create the video because I seemed to be more creative so I agreed. My own tasks ended up being doing some research on fast fashion facts and creating the video.
From doing this project, I was able to learn about new clothing and shoe brands that are sustainable and working towards many important environmental goals (reducing carbon footprint, using eco-friendly materials, proper conditions for workers, etc). In comparison to an essay, I do believe a PSA is the best method of spreading awareness on issues like Fast Fashion. They are very straightforward, grab the attention of the audience well and give a good start of information for someone to recognize the issue and see potential solutions.
My most favorable aspect of working on the group project was creating the video. Even though it was a bit pushed on to me at the start, I actually enjoyed working on the video and was able to get very creative with it. I was also able to familiarize myself more with Canva, as it was a platform I have never used in the past. My least favorable aspect of working on the group project was trying to work with the 30 second time limit. It was a bit hard to shorten it down at times and to summarize the information as there were many important key points. One improvement I suggest for improving the SPSA project is to add more time to the video so that the information can be read better.
